About Us
Farm Country Cheese House broke ground in April, 1983 and began production in July of 1984. From the beginning, the Amish communities in and around Lakeview, Michigan have supplied all of the milk and most of the labor to process the wide variety of cheeses we sell. For over 25 years, Farm Country Cheese House has created fresh, antibiotic-free, artisanal cheeses. Our culture is supportive and kind, and we work together with the local Michigan farmers to bring the highest-quality and freshest cheese to you! We use milk made by cows that are naturally raised and antibiotic free, with absolutely no artificial hormones introduced in their diet. Farm Country Cheese House is proud to say we support Michigan Family Dairy Farms, and the dedicated employees that work at the cheese house.

In 2018 Andrew and Nicki Arens purchased Farm Country Cheese House. As a dairy nutritionist and dairy farmer, Andrew wanted to combine his years of industry knowledge with a lifelong passion for agriculture and actualized the dream of purchasing Farm Country Cheese House. We pride ourselves on the quality, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding that cheese making truly is an art. Skill and art are applied to each cheese during the traditional handcrafting process. Each batch is made with no additives, hormones, or preservatives. As a result, the quality of our product is second to none. We are passionate about keeping authentic cheddar-making alive combining time-honored techniques with modern innovation.
Practices
For over 25 years, Farm Country Cheese House has worked in partnership with Michigan’s best dairy farmers to create fresh, antibiotic-free, artisanal cheeses. Our cheeses are pure, simple and clean because the health and comfort of the cows are a top priority. We source all milk from family farms across Michigan, overseeing the nutrition of the cows to ensure the best product possible. We use milk made by cows on our local Amish dairy farms and follow Amish traditions and practices. Because the health and comfort of the cows are a top priority, the small dairy farms that we work with raise herds of only 4 to 20 cows, where each cow is hand-milked twice daily. In the operation of our equipment and business, we use minimal amounts of electricity, which is supplied to us by an electric cooperative.

At Farm Country Cheese House, our quality standards are extremely high. We believe in a truly clean process, from farm to table. This means no additives. All featured cheeses are natural, free of added hormones, and antibiotic-free, Our process is rooted in traditional methods with no machines. Our cheeses are all handcrafted by our head German cheesemaker, crafting small batches by hand from our own starter in-house. This is a timely and expensive process, but it is also what gives our cheese distinct consistency and creaminess… and we are sure you will agree!
